Questions, a bug, or an idea? Email balatechnologiesllc@gmail.com. It helps to include your iPhone or iPad model and iOS version.
How it works
- Choose an ink. Tap one on the rack: water, sixteen inks, or one you've mixed (the + is the mixing dish). Tap the ink you've chosen again to thin it: neat, thinned, or a pale wash.
- Put it on the paper. Touch the paper and a drop falls, on either page or in the crease. Hold, and the drop swells to a pour. Set off at once and the dropper dribbles a line; flick it and it spatters. Draw two fingers across wet ink to blow it along.
- iPhone Duo: close the phone to fold the sheet, rub the outer display to push the ink about, and open the phone to peel the pages apart. Open it slowly and the ink is drawn into long veins.
- Any iPhone or iPad: tap Fold, or draw the left page over by a turned-up corner. Rub the folded page, then tap Peel slowly or Open.
- Keep going. Every print goes in the drawer (tap the sheet's name, then Drawer), where you can name and share it. Add more ink and fold again, dry the sheet to work over it, or undo.
- Shapes. For a game, choose Shapes from the sheet's name: an outline to fill with a few drops, and a stamp for how close you came.
Common questions
- The ink didn't print. Only wet ink prints. A drop stays wet for a minute or so, so fold soon after dropping it.
- I folded too soon. While the sheet is still shut, Undo unfolds it without printing.
- A drop went where I didn't want it. Undo takes back the last three things you did.
- The ink runs to one side. Tilt is on (there's a small tilting-phone mark by the buttons): tap it to turn it off.
- There's no sound. Sound follows the Ring/Silent switch, and can be turned off in Settings.
- Where are my prints? In the drawer, on your device only. Deleting the app deletes them, so share the ones you want to keep.
- What does the app send? Only anonymous statistics about how it's used (which tools, for how long), never your prints or their names. Turn it off in Settings, under Share anonymous usage statistics. See the Privacy Policy.
- Which devices are supported? Any iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or later. Folding by closing the phone needs iPhone Duo.
